Dunedin City Aquatic Facilities and Services Review
Dunedin City Council plays a significant role in the provision of pool space for the population but acknowledged the important contribution of school and community pools in providing equitable access to pool space citywide for the Dunedin community. Collectively council, school and community pools make up Dunedin’s aquatic network.
The Dunedin City Aquatic Facilities and Services Review was undertaken to inform investment decision making and making the best use of the existing network.
There are 22 pools in the district network. Of these only five are all-year-round facilities and none of these are privately owned. Limited all-year-round pool access has caused pressure on the summer period to address the user needs. At the time of the review there is no deep warm water facility suitable for therapeutic use.
The outcome of the review were recommendations for Council to support the community and school aquatic facilities to be retained.
